SkinPen Micro-needling
Microneedling is an advanced skin treatment designed to stimulate collagen and elastin production, improving skin texture and refreshing the skin’s overall appearance. At The Skynn Societe, we use SkinPen, one of the most advanced medical-grade microneedling devices available.

Additionally, we offer Skin Booster Infusions and chemical peels as add-ons to microneedling treatments. These can enhance results and target specific concerns such as uneven skin tone, hyperpigmentation, fine lines, dehydration, and overall skin radiance.

Frequently asked questions
Microneedling, often referred to as collagen induction therapy or percutaneous collagen induction therapy, is an advanced skin treatment aimed at inducing collagen and elastin production within the skin’s deeper layers while simultaneously refreshing the surface appearance of the skin. The treatment uses a fine needle device to create micro-injuries in the skin, stimulating the body’s natural healing response and promoting healthier, firmer skin.
SkinPen is a versatile treatment suitable for all skin types and can be used as a preventative or restorative treatment to maintain the skin’s integrity, address specific concerns, or improve general skin texture. It can also be part of a comprehensive treatment plan when combined with peels, booster active serums and light based treatments.
SkinPen microneedling can be used to treat a wide variety of skin concerns, including:
Uneven skin tone
Hyperpigmentation
PIE+PIH
Fine lines and wrinkles
Acne scars and other types of scarring
Large pores
Sun damage
General skin rejuvenation
It’s especially beneficial for skin that needs a refresh or for clients looking to maintain a youthful, glowing complexion.
After an initial consultation, the SkinPen microneedling treatment typically takes 45 to 60 minutes. A topical numbing cream may be applied beforehand to minimise discomfort. The treatment is generally well-tolerated by most clients. You may feel a mild tickling, prickling sensation, or slight pressure as the device passes over the skin. In some cases, particularly when treating deeper concerns like acne scarring, mild discomfort may be experienced.
Depending on the depth of the needles, pinpoint bleeding can occur, but it will stop once the procedure is complete. Immediately following the treatment, you may experience redness and mild inflammation, which usually subsides within 24 hours. In some cases, redness can take up to 48 hours to fully subside. Your skin may feel tight and sunburned for the first day or two.
To ensure the best results and avoid complications like scarring or infection, it’s essential to follow the aftercare instructions provided by your skin therapist. These include:
Avoid picking at dry skin to prevent scarring and infection.
Avoid saunas or vigorous exercise for the next 24-48 hours post-treatment.
Protect your skin from the sun by applying sunscreen every day (even on cloudy days) to prevent sun damage and pigmentation.
Avoid active skincare products (such as retinol or Vitamin A) until advised by your therapist to avoid irritation.
Following these guidelines will help you achieve the best possible outcome and minimise any risks.
For general skin rejuvenation, 4 to 6 sessions are typically recommended. The treatments are usually spaced 4 weeks apart to allow your body to produce collagen between sessions. If you're addressing more significant issues, such as sun damage or scarring, you may need more treatments. After completing your initial course, maintenance treatments every 6 to 12 months can help keep your skin in top condition.
Results from micro-needling continue to improve over time as new collagen and elastin are produced. Initial improvements can be noticed after just a few sessions, with full results typically visible in 3-6 months as collagen synthesis progresses. The collagen from a micro-needling treatment can continue to be stimulated for up to 12-24 months after the treatment. To maintain the effects and keep your skin looking refreshed and rejuvenated, regular maintenance treatments are recommended.
Microneedling is generally a safe skin treatment with minimal side effects. The most common post-treatment effects include:
Redness (like a mild sunburn)
Skin tightness and mild discomfort
Mild swelling
Dryness or flaking in the following days
In rare cases, hyperpigmentation, hypopigmentation, or infection can occur. However, these complications are uncommon and can usually be addressed with the appropriate aftercare or medical intervention.
Contraindications include:
Pregnancy and breastfeeding (if anaesthetic is used)
Recent use of Oral Isotretinoin - Accutane/Oratane (within the last 6 months)
Active acne or inflammatory skin conditions
Active infection or wounds (including coldsores/herpes simplex virus)
Clients on blood-thinning medications (including aspirin, ibuprofen)
Smokers (due to reduced healing capacity)
Our Dermal Therapists will thoroughly assess your skin and health history during the consultation to ensure you're a suitable candidate for micro-needling. Please let your therapist know prior to your treatment if you are contraindicated or if there have been any changes to your health or skin condition.
