What are supramaximal contractions?
Under normal conditions, the central nervous system can only send one stimulus to a muscle at a time. During voluntary muscle contractions, this means that muscle fibres must relax between each nerve signal. As a result, even at full effort, your body can only achieve what is known as Maximal Voluntary Contraction (MVC), a peak contraction that lasts only a split second.
Supramaximal contractions go beyond this physiological limit. These are contractions with a tension greater than what the body can produce on its own. Unlike normal voluntary contractions, EMSCULPT NEO bypasses the brain entirely by using HIFEM+ (High-Intensity Focused Electromagnetic) technology to deliver impulses directly to the muscles.
